Can healthy lives be found in locusts?

by J. Wesley McComb

If you are what you eat, then what does that make John the Baptist? According to Matthew 3:4 and Mark 1:6, John ate locusts and wild honey. To our modern way of thinking, John was way off the Food Pyramid.

Before I go any further, I need to provide the government required disclaimer about the rest of this article. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Many years ago, I ran across some research about bee products. The nutritional components of a bee hive are pollen, propolis, and royal jelly (honey). Propolis was actually the antibiotic of choice before penicillin was discovered. Together, these three components have all but one of the nutrients needed to sustain human life. You guessed it: The missing nutrient is found in locusts.

Healthcare is a major topic in advertising and politics right now. How often do you see an advertisement for a diet plan, an exercise machine, or a drug that will cure what ails you? Congress is openly considering how to provide health insurance for everyone who lives in America-citizen or not. Most would agree healthcare costs are out of control even for those who can afford them.

Some consider these situations as desperately needing attention. Sometimes in our zeal to resolve a problem we overlook the obvious. Psalms 90:10 tells us people over 2,500 years ago could live into their seventies or eighties. They followed the Old Testament dietary laws. Is it possible we are missing something?

Robert O. Young, Ph.D. and Shelley Redford Young in their book The pH Miracle have taken a different approach. They propose cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and many other conditions are symptoms of a root problem. They believe a pH factor other than 7.365 is the root problem. They list 14 lines of major diseases that result from a low or acid pH factor.

What happens if they are right? Would we still need $15,000 per treatment chemotherapy sessions? How about the long list of prescription drugs many take? Is it possible all we need to do is eat right?

Paul called our bodies, temples (1st Corinthians 6:9). We have a responsibility to the Father to maintain our health as best we can. How are you caring for your temple?

Grace and peace in the power of the Holy Spirit.
